Please Note: This post may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure here. Curious about the wheelchair accessible features of the Barcelo Maya Palace luxury all inclusive resort in the Mayan Riviera area of Mexico? Then you have come to the right place! The resort is part of a sprawling complex and there is so much to see and do! From snorkeling with turtles right off the beach, roll-able beach sand, a beach wheelchair available to rent, delicious food and elevators and ramps everywhere! There were multiple accessible restrooms located in the common areas and lobbies of the resorts (way handier than having to go back your room all the time!). All the food was incredible…

Iberostar Paraiso Beach : Wheelchair Accessibility | Riviera Maya, Mexico

Introducing the three amigos on wheels! As three wheelchair users we had a fantastic time at the Iberostar Paraiso Beach resort in the Mayan Riveria! It was a great escape from the cold and the snow. The heat and humidity goes a long way to help reduce my chronic nerve pain, and it was great not to worry about snowy or icy paths when rolling around. I would recommend this resort to any wheelchair user looking for some fun in the sun! Check out a video of our time at the Iberostar Paraiso Beach here. 3 amigos on wheels Before you go: -Book with an accessible travel agent. Scott Beare (scott.beare@fareconnect.com) helped us get a…

New York City: Wheeling Around the Big Apple

It needs no introduction: "The Big Apple", "The City That Never Sleeps", "Gotham", "The Capital of the World", "A City of Neon and Chrome." The city so nice they named it twice: New York, New York. New York City was the first capital of the United States of America. Now it is not even the capital of its state: Albany took that distinction. However, New York City is the quintessential cosmopolitan metropolis in the hearts of many. With countless iconic views recognizable from films, tv, and photos. New York City is a melting pot of cultures and people from all over the world. It is estimated over 800 languages are spoken in the city. It…

3D Printing Wheelchair Accessories

The ability to 3D print more or less anything we can imagine is one of the biggest paradigm shifts in our generation!.. In a way it allows things to be transported through time and space and transform from a concept to a tangible object in a relatively short period of time. Here are some cool wheelchair accessories that can be 3D printed that might make your life as a wheelchair user a bit easier. Here are some cool things I found on Thingiverse, a global network of non-,monetized devices and prototypes. You can download the files free of charge and print them yourself, or get a local 3D printing business to do it for you.…

Wheelchair Accessible Canmore, Alberta: Gateway to the Canadian Rocky Mountains

Canmore is usually only seen as a stopping point on the way to Banff, or as a cheaper place to stay when exploring Banff National Park. However, there is so much to love about this little town nestled in the Rocky Mountains. Canmore is well known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreation activities. There is also a thriving arts and foodie scene.     The town of Canmore began as a small coal mining community in the 1880s.  However, the last mine closed in 1979 and the town has since reinvented itself. Nowadays, it is home to a bustling tourism and recreation based economy. The population of the town exploded after the Nordic events of…

Wheelchair Accessible Private Room at the Canmore Downtown Hostel

I was very impressed with the Canmore Downtown Hostel. They are located in the newly built 'Shops of Canmore' complex and are in a prime location to walk/roll to the different places around town. There is an underground parkade with elevator access, that is open from 7am-7pm (but hostel staff have a card to access until 10:30pm when they leave if need be). There is plenty of parking available out front, and they will give you a pass to put on your dash when you check in.      They provided a pillow case, a sheet, and towels at check in. The beds had fitted sheets on they and a cozy duvet folded at the…

Wheelchair Accessible Places to Eat and Grab a Drink in Canmore, Alberta

Canmore is a food lovers dream. There is so many cool local restaurants and craft breweries to check out! I had good intentions of cooking some of my own food at the hostel. Unfortunately, there were way too many good places to eat and drink so that didn't happen. I was extremely impressed with all of the meals, very flavourful and unique twists on old classics! Grizzly Paw Pub and Brewery: This was our first stop after our drive in, after not eating much for breakfast by the time we rolled into town we were ready to eat (and drink). I tried the raspberry beer and the shrimp tacos with passion fruit salsa and was…

Wheelchair Accessible Activities in Edmonton, Alberta

Edmonton has many different monikers from the "Big E" to "E-Town." Some call it Deadmonton, but despite this unflattering name there is lots to do around the "City of Champions." There are a variety of different sights to see and activities to enjoy year round. Catch an Oilers game or a concert at Rogers Place, or catch the newly renamed Edmonton Elks play a game of Canadian football at Commonwealth Stadium. Culture yourself and enjoy the art scene at the Art Gallery of Alberta, the Winspear Centre or the Citadel Theatre. Take in the natural beauty of the North Saskatchewan River Valley, or learn about the pioneer days and the history of the city at…
